The Philippine Army’s 2nd Infantry Division on Sunday reported the arrest of another leader of the communist rebel group, New People’s Army (NPA), in Lucena City, Quezon Province.
The apprehended terrorist was identified as Darwin Palo alias Queen.
Palo has existing arrest warrants for Criminal Case 16902-G, which includes charges of Attempted Murder, Multiple Attempted Murders, Double Homicide, Frustrated Homicide, and Attempted Homicide.
Major General Cerilo Balaoro Jr., Commander of the 2nd Infantry (Jungle Fighter) Division, said the NPA leader was arrested on March 27 by personnel from the Army’s 85th Infantry Battalion and the Lucena City Police Station while serving a warrant.
Balaoro touted the military’s roles in assisting in law enforcement operations.
“The 2nd Infantry Division is committed to upholding the rule of law and protecting human rights, ensuring that all actions are conducted with professionalism and integrity,” he said.
“Through our collaboration with law enforcement agencies, we remain steadfast in our mission to neutralize threats and safeguard communities from criminal and terrorist activities,” he added.
Balaoro further said the operation “marks another significant milestone” in the country’s sustained efforts to weaken the NPA’s influence and operational capacity within communities.
He then reiterated the military's commitment to working closely with law enforcement agencies to dismantle terrorist networks and ensure that those who threaten peace and security are held accountable.
