Filipino Melvin Jerusalem successfully defended his World Boxing Council (WBC) minimumweight title for the second time with a 12-round unanimous decision victory over Yudai Shigeoka on Sunday at the Aichi Sky Expo in Tokoname, Japan.
The judges scored the fight 119-109, 118-110, and 116-112.
Unlike their first encounter last year in Nagoya, where Jerusalem scored two knockdowns, there were no knockdowns in the rematch. However, Jerusalem still dominated, improving his record to 24-3 with 12 knockouts. Shigeoka's record now stands at 9-2 with five knockouts. — JC Barrera
