The Land Transportation Office (LTO) announced on Saturday that it has begun conducting a refresher training program for all its enforcers nationwide to update them on protocols and procedures in enforcing road safety rules and regulations.
LTO chief, Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II, said the refresher course was attended by enforcers from the Central Office and the National Capital Region.
However, it will also be rolled out to all regional offices, covering personnel down to the district level.
“This initiative ensures that LTO personnel remain updated, well-equipped and efficient in carrying out their duties,” Mendoza said.
Dubbed the Retooling Training Program, it is designed to provide comprehensive refresher training and skills enhancement for all LTO law enforcement personnel nationwide.
Mendoza stated that the program aims to strengthen enforcers’ knowledge and enforcement capabilities regarding Republic Act 4136 (Land Transportation and Traffic Code) and other related laws, particularly RA 8750 (Seat Belts Use Act of 1999) and RA 11229 (Child Safety in Motor Vehicles Act).
“The retooling training program also includes guidelines and procedures for motor vehicle inspections, as well as protocols for conducting law enforcement operations,” Mendoza added.
“By advancing the legal knowledge and enforcement capabilities of personnel, this will ensure consistency and effectiveness in land transportation law enforcement, improve road safety, and foster greater public trust in the professionalism and integrity of LTO field enforcement personnel nationwide,” he emphasized.
Mendoza earlier ordered the refresher training following a viral incident in Bohol involving a motorcycle rider and LTO enforcers.
Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon ordered the dismissal of the five LTO personnel involved and expressed support for Mendoza’s directive to conduct moral and spiritual training programs for all agency personnel.
“The implementation of this retooling training program proves that your LTO is responsive to the recommendations of our fellow citizens and is committed to the directive of our DoTr Secretary to continuously improve services for Filipinos,” Mendoza said.
