BAGUIO CITY — The head of the Public Order and Safety Division (POSD) clarified that the proposal of imposing congestion fee to the motorists is not yet a done deal as it is still under study.
Baguio City POSD Deputy chief Darryl Longid in an engagement with the media said that the collection of congestion fees from private vehicles is still far from implementation. This he said because the proposal is yet to go to many consultations to ensure its feasibility that will benefit the public.
Last year, an uproar from the community burst after knowing that the City Government is proposing a P250 congestion fee. Said proposal was supposedly aimed to discourage owners of private motorists to bring their vehicles to the Central Business District (CBD) of the city by imposing a fee on them in a bid to reduce the volume of vehicular traffic in the said area.
The imposition of congestion fee is one of the proposals under the proposed Smart Urban Mobility Project being studied to ease traffic at the CBD.
According to Longid however as the proposal is under study and will go to many processes, there is a need for the improvement of the public transportation of the city.
