Martin del Rosario has reached a significant milestone in his career, stepping onto the stage for his theater debut in Jun Robles Lana's acclaimed play, Anino sa Likod ng Buwan (Shadow Behind The Moon).

The Kapuso actor's transition to theater has been met with enthusiasm, as he showcases his versatility and dedication to his craft.

For Martin, the experience has been a mix of nerves and excitement. "It’s my first time performing in a play, so the thought of having a live audience watching me made me really nervous at first. Even more so when I heard the chimes — it was a different feeling knowing that in three minutes, the play would start," he shared in English and Filipino, describing the initial jitters of performing before a live audience.

However, once on stage, Martin’s instincts as an actor took over. "The moment I stepped onto the stage, it all disappeared. Since you can’t actually see the audience, it feels like you’re completely immersed in the world of Anino sa Likod ng Buwan," he explained, highlighting the immersive nature of theater.

He also described the unique experience of interacting with a live audience.

"I was surprised the first time I heard laughter or reactions from the audience because it meant they were really listening. If they laughed, it meant they were invested in the story and following along. You can also feel the awkward silences or the silence caused by tension in the scenes. I was really happy that people were so engaged while watching," Martin said, appreciating the audience’s responsiveness.

The actor has been overwhelmed by the positive reception he has received. Notably, award-winning actress Dolly de Leon offered praise after a special preview of the play.

"So many people have congratulated me — people from work, from the play, and even those I idolize. Their comments are so flattering and inspiring. It makes me eager for the play to start. At first, I was nervous, but now the excitement for the regular run of Anino sa Likod ng Buwan is taking over," he revealed.

Martin’s family has also shown their support, with his sisters attending a performance.

Anino sa Likod ng Buwan is scheduled to run until 23 March at the PETA Theater Center.
