BingoPlus has secured a major sponsorship for the Manila International Film Festival (MIFF), aimed at promoting Philippine cinema on the global stage. The event, which took place at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles, California, showcases Filipino-made films and aims to elevate the quality and creativity of the country's film industry.
MIFF, an annual event, celebrates and honors Philippine cinema, with a focus on various genres of film. Originally scheduled for January, the festival was postponed due to the wildfires that impacted Southern California.
Before a special screening of films, including Eraserheads: Combo on the Run Documentary, Tribute to Genghis Khan, The Debut, and Love Hurts, a press conference was held for select media partners.
Tribute to Genghis Khan, which marks its 75th anniversary, was a highlight of the screening. The film, directed by Manuel Conde, made history as the first Filipino film to be introduced to international film festivals, premiering in Venice in 1952.
The event also featured a Director's Breakfast and a Director’s Guild of America tour at Cavatina Restaurant in West Hollywood. The second screening included The Kingdom, which featured BingoPlus brand ambassador Piolo Pascual as Sulayman “Sulo” Tagum. Pascual’s performance in the film, which imagines a Philippines uncolonized by invaders, earned him dual nominations for Best Actor and the prestigious Gatpuno Antonio J. Villegas Cultural Award at the Metro Manila Film Festival.
Through its sponsorship, BingoPlus continues to support efforts to highlight the achievements of Filipino filmmakers and their contributions to global cinema.
