A magnitude 5.1 earthquake jolted Wao, Lanao del Sur in Mindanao early Saturday 8 March according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
The tremor was recorded at 12:53 a.m. at a depth of 10 kilometers. Residents of Wao experienced moderate shaking.
Phivolcs reported varying intensities in nearby areas: Intensity IV at Kalilangan, Bukidnon; Intensity II in San Fernando, Bukidnon; and Intensity I in Malitbog and Libona, Bukidnon, Kidapawan City, Magpet and M’Lang, Cotabato.
This earthquake follows a magnitude 4.6 tremor that struck Wao on Thursday evening. The previous quake, with an epicenter about 2 kilometers northeast of the town, was tectonic in origin and had a shallow depth of 3 kilometers.
Authorities have not reported any significant damage or casualties from either earthquake.
