JOLO, Sulu — Soldiers, together with the local government unit of Kalingalang Caluang, Sulu, successfully settled an 18-year-old clan feud that had impeded the municipality’s economic development.
Brig. Gen. Alaric Avelino P. Delos Santos, commander of the 1102nd Infantry “Ganarul” Brigade in Luuk, Sulu, confirmed that the settlement ceremony took place on Thursday at the Kalingalang Caluang Municipal Hall in Barangay Pitogo.
The military, in collaboration with the LGU, resolved the long-standing feud between the families of Sarbini Usman and Talib Samlahon.
The conflict began in 2007 when Talib accused Usman of supporting the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG), a claim Usman denied.
Delos Santos described the settlement as a pivotal moment for peace and stability in the region, emphasizing that it could serve as a model for resolving similar conflicts in Sulu.
He stressed, “The resolution of this long-standing rido (feud) is a testament to the power of dialogue and community-led initiatives in promoting peace.”
The settlement is expected to positively impact the community and further the pursuit of long-term peace and development in the region. Delos Santos reiterated the importance of cooperation between security forces, local leaders and the community to build a just and peaceful society.
