Malacañang has confirmed that Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Ivan Uy has resigned from his post.
Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro confirmed Uy’s resignation in a message to reporters.
“DICT Sec Ivan john Uy's resignation was accepted by the President today. An OIC will fill the position until the President appoints a secretary,” she said.
Uy is the third cabinet member of the Marcos administration to resign since the beginning of the year.
On 13 February, Jaime Bautista resigned as Transportation Secretary. He was replaced by Vince Dizon. Bautista said he resigned due to health reasons.
In the same month, Cesar Chavez resigned as Secretary of the Presidential Communications Office after “falling short” of what was expected of him. He was replaced by former broadcast journalist Jay Ruiz.
The OIC who will fill Uy’s place has yet to be named, but earlier reports suggested that Undersecretary Jeffry Ian Dy will be filling in temporarily.
Uy’s departure has been speculated for some time, with reasons attributed to his performance at the DICT.
According to some reports, Uy was criticized over his alleged frequent trips overseas, which allegedly impacted his agency’s performance.
Secretary Uy has yet to make any statements regarding his resignation from the cabinet.
Meanwhile, Castro said there is no update yet regarding the evaluation of cabinet members.
She earlier stated that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is evaluating whether there is a need for a change in leadership in government agencies.
