5.4-magnitude quake rocks Davao City

DAVAO CITY — A 5.4-magnitude earthquake of Intensity 3 hit Davao City on Tuesday, 4 March at 9:42 a.m.

According to the DoST-Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, the earthquake also struck Matanao, Davao del Sur most along with its neighboring Magsaysay, Davao del Sur with an Intensity 5. Intensity 4 magnitude was recorded at Kidapawan City, Cotabato, Malungon Sarangani, Tampakan and Tupi South Cotabato.

Aside from Davao City, intensity 3 magnitude shook Magpet, South Cotabato, General Santos City; Banga, South Cotabato, President Quirino and Columbio, Sultan Kudarat. Intensity 2 at Pikit, Cotabato; Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental; Kiamba, Sarangani; Suralla, Norala, Santo Niño and T’Boli, South Cotabato; Lambayong and Isulan, Sultan Kudarat while Intensity 1 shook Don Marelino, Davao Occidental; Nabunturan, Davao de Oro and Lake Sebu, South Cotabato.

Students from Davao City’s schools both public and private were advised to vacate the school premises since it happened on school hours. Among those were Holy Cross of Davao College, University of Mindanao and Ateneo de Davao University.

The Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office are closely monitoring for possible aftershocks since there are no reports of death and destruction.
