QC gov't urged to suspend classes after fire hits UP Campus residential area

As a fire broke out today in Barangay UP Campus, netizens are urging the Quezon City government to suspend classes, citing safety concerns and disruptions caused by the ongoing emergency.

Frustrated students and residents took to social media to express their concerns over the lack of class suspensions. Some also accused the city government of filtering public comments on its official pages.

“The fact that the Quezon City government is now deleting/hiding Facebook comments on their posts says a lot about how they’ve been filtering their media. Ang disappointing. Paano yung mga studyante at mga magulang na naghahatid at sumusundo sa anak nila? Sobrang init sa labas—kahit sandaling lakad lang, nakakahilo na. Paano pa yung mga nababad sa araw dahil walang aircon?” user commented on Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (QCDRRMC) facebook post.

Others expressed their frustration more directly, “Tapos may pasok diba, ang galing talaga ng QC.”

Meanwhile, several Metro Manila cities, including Caloocan, Las Piñas, Malabon, and Valenzuela, have suspended face-to-face classes due to extreme heat, with PAGASA warning of heat indices reaching up to 46°C.

The fire, which broke out earlier today, prompted a swift response from the Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and the Bureau of Fire Protection.

"As of 11:21, Bureau of Fire Protection declares fire under control," QCDRRMC said.

As of now, the Quezon City government has yet to issue an official statement on class suspensions related to the fire.
