A Manila Police District (MPD) officer assigned to the Remedios Police Community Precinct was seriously injured early Tuesday while responding to a report of illegal drag racing on the service road of Roxas Boulevard at Paseo del Carmen Street, Barangay 699, Malate, Manila.
Patrolman John Hernandez, one of five officers who responded, attempted to flag down a racer. Instead of complying, the rider sped off on a black Yamaha NMax motorcycle, striking Hernandez.
The officer fell to the ground and slipped, striking the pavement. The rider was arrested.
Two other suspects resisted arrest and attempted to flee on their motorcycles, but were apprehended.
Hernandez is hospitalized at Chinese General Hospital for treatment of his injuries and is under observation pending X-ray examinations.
Criminal complaints of frustrated murder, serious resistance and disobedience to a person of authority, and alarm and scandal were filed against the arrested suspects, whose names were withheld by police, at the Manila City Prosecutor’s Office.
