NCRPO vows to crack down on vote buying

Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin
The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) on Thursday announced it has intensified efforts to combat vote buying and vote selling ahead of the 2025 midterm elections.
NCRPO acting regional director Police Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin said he has mobilized all units to strengthen intelligence gathering and conduct proactive enforcement operations.
Aberin said the NCRPO is also coordinating with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on the full implementation of the “Kontra Bigay” campaign, which was officially launched to combat vote-buying, vote-selling, and the misuse of state resources.
To achieve this, the NCRPO has ramped up its monitoring efforts, operational responses, and collaboration with key stakeholders, including the Comelec, local government units, law enforcement agencies, and the public.
The NCRPO chief reminded the public that the Omnibus Election Code imposes severe penalties on those engaged in vote buying and vote selling, including imprisonment of up to six years, disqualification from public office, and loss of voting rights.
