Cops launch manhunt over North Caloocan shooting

Authorities in Camarin, Caloocan are conducting a thorough CCTV backtracking and investigation after a shooting incident in North Caloocan in the early hours 17 February 2025.

Police Lt. Russelle Fang of the Camarin Police Substation disclosed that police are still investigating the facts of the incident, including possible motives.

“There were no CCTV cameras that captured the shooting itself; however, the suspects’ possible escape routes were caught, and we are still reviewing them,” Fang said.

Initial reports said that the shooting occurred along Sampaloc Extension in Barangay 178 in North Caloocan, where a 34-year-old jeepney driver was killed by multiple gunshot wounds.

“Based on interrogation, the victim was drinking with his live-in partner around 2 a.m. when someone knocked and called his name. He opened the door, and then the suspects shot him,” Fang said.

Operatives recovered at least two empty .45-caliber shell casings.

Fang added that after reviewing footage from other CCTV cameras in the area, they discovered that the motorcycle used had no license plate, and the suspects wore helmets -— one of them also wearing a jacket hood.

Despite the assailants calling the victim’s name, the police lieutenant said they still cannot determine if the suspects knew the victim personally, or if other people simply gave the victim’s name to the shooters.

Police investigation also revealed that the victim and his live-in partner were relatively new to the area, having rented there for two months.

Col. Edcille Canals, Caloocan City police chief, has instructed officers to conduct a follow-up investigation that may lead to the suspects’ arrest.
