The local government of Valenzuela City has distributed newly purchased rescue equipment to strengthen its disaster response capabilities and the new fleet includes rescue boats, mobile water filtration trucks, and a power van.

At least 33 rescue boats, one for each barangay, were distributed to enable local units to conduct rescue operations during disasters. Each barangay received a fiberglass boat with two paddles and life jackets.

The city government said fiberglass was chosen for its durability and resistance to damage, making it ideal for rescue operations despite potential debris.

Meantime, two mobile water filtration trucks, each capable of holding at least 1,000 liters of water, will provide potable water to evacuees during severe flooding.

“If another severe storm hits the city, we are prepared,” Mayor Weslie Gatchalian said. “These fiberglass boats are the most utilized equipment during rescue operations.”

In July 2024, Valenzuela City was among the areas in Metro Manila most affected by rains enhanced by super typhoon “Carina” and the southwest monsoon.

Portions of the city experienced chest-deep flooding after the La Mesa Dam overflowed, exacerbating the heavy rains.
