Several universities in the Philippines, including De La Salle University (DLSU) and the University of Santo Tomas (UST), have announced the suspension of classes and school operations on 25 February, in observance of the 39th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution.

Proclamation No. 727, which outlines the country’s regular and special non-working days for 2025, acknowledges the significance of the uprising. However, the anniversary falls on a special working day, as declared by the government.

"WHEREAS, on 25 February 2025 (Tuesday), the country will commemorate the 39th Anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution, which ushered in political, social, and economic reforms, thus, may be declared as a special working day.”

Despite this, some academic institutions have chosen to cancel classes to mark the occasion. DLSU will observe an "Alternative Learning Day,” suspending all classes and work on its campuses.

"To commemorate the EDSA People Power Revolution, classes at all levels and work on all campuses of the university are called off on February 25, 2025. Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to participate in activities honoring the event during this Alternative Learning Day," DLSU announced.

Similarly, UST has also suspended classes, calling on Thomasians to engage in activities that uphold the values of democracy and peaceful resistance.

"As we commemorate the EDSA People Power Revolution, we are reminded of the power of unity, courage, and peaceful action. Let us stand united and never forget that true power lies in the collective will of the people. It is our responsibility to uphold the values of integrity, justice, and freedom for generations to come," UST stated in a memorandum.

Colegio de San Juan de Letran — Manila, Bataan, Calamba, and Manaoag — will also commemorate the anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution. The school announced on 21 February that classes and office operations will be suspended, in observance of the historic event.
