The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported 23 volcanic earthquakes at Kanlaon Volcano as of Friday morning, signaling continued unrest.
According to its latest bulletin, the Negros Island volcano also emitted 4,186 tonnes of sulfur dioxide, with a 75-meter-high plume drifting southwest. The volcano’s edifice remains inflated, indicating sustained volcanic activity. Occasional ash emissions were also observed.
Alert Level 3 remains in effect, warning of possible magmatic unrest following Kanlaon’s 9 December 2024 eruption. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely.
PHIVOLCS reiterated that the six-kilometer danger zone around the summit must remain off-limits. It also advised against flying aircraft near the volcano.
Due to the ongoing volcanic activity, Negros Oriental has declared a state of calamity.
