Fajardo gets answered prayer

World No. 1 rated flyweight Miel Fajardo will soon get his wish.

“This has been Miel’s dream fight,” the Filipino knockout artist’s Hong Kong manager Lennon Tsoi told DAILY TRIBUNE.

Just recently, the International Boxing Federation (IBF) issued a memorandum urging the camps of Fajardo and defending champion Masamichi Yabuki to start negotiations for a title clash.

That fight is expected to happen by October or November.

It could not be determined if Yabuki is still under the banner of Kameda Promotions as there are reports that he could be signing up with another Japanese outfit.

Fajardo, meanwhile, is not taking any chances.

“He’s been showing up for training,” said local matchmaker Anthony Arieta, who is American dealmaker Sean Gibbons’ point man in the Philippines.

While Fajardo isn’t actually in training camp, “he is spending his time wisely by sweating it out regularly,” added Arieta.

The plan is for Fajardo to set up camp at the Elorde Sports Center in Sucat, Parañaque, by the first week of September.

If a deal is reached, it is likely that the fight will be staged in Japan.

“Miel’s unaffected. He’s a road warrior. He likes it when he is the one fighting in his opponent’s backyard,” added Arieta.
