Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) has achieved a historic milestone as its WATERLab becomes the first water utility laboratory in the Philippines to earn the prestigious My Green Lab Certification. This globally recognized benchmark for sustainable laboratory practices is endorsed by the United Nations’ Race to Zero campaign, emphasizing WATERLab’s commitment to environmentally responsible operations.
My Green Lab, a leading non-profit organization promoting sustainability in the scientific community, awarded this certification to Maynilad’s central laboratory, which monitors water and wastewater quality. The recognition follows the facility’s implementation of water conservation, energy efficiency, and eco-friendly initiatives.
WATERLab began its sustainability journey in May 2024, integrating key environmental measures such as flow-limiting faucets, LED lighting, and inverter air-conditioning to reduce water and electricity consumption. The laboratory also eliminated single-use plastics, transitioned to reusable glassware, and prioritized eco-friendly suppliers—earning a 97% score, the highest Green-level certification.
“This achievement affirms Maynilad’s environmental stewardship and operational excellence,” said Atty. Roel S. Espiritu, Maynilad’s chief sustainability officer. “We hope this inspires other laboratories to integrate sustainable practices, contributing to a greener and more resilient future.”
Maynilad WATERLab continues to push for greater sustainability, with plans to enhance efficiency, reduce emissions from sampling activities, and incorporate electric vehicles into its fleet by 2025. By pioneering green laboratory practices, Maynilad strengthens its commitment to environmental sustainability and responsible water management.
Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) in the Philippines, serving areas across Metro Manila and parts of Cavite.
