The remains of overseas Filipino worker (OFW) Jenny Alvarado, who allegedly died due to coal suffocation in Kuwait, were laid to rest in Rodriguez, Rizal on Sunday.
Alvarado’s family demanded justice, alleging foul play in her death. Friends of the OFW in Kuwait claimed that she had been maltreated and sexually harassed by her employer prior to her passing.
In a statement, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said an investigation into Alvarado’s employer is ongoing.
DMW Secretary Hans Cacdac, in a televised interview, stated that further actions would depend on the autopsy. He also urged witnesses to come forward.
“For now, we just really need to rely on science, which is the autopsy,” the DMW secretary said.
Alvarado died on 2 January along with two foreign co-workers. Her remains were mistakenly swapped on 10 January with her Nepali co-worker’s.
The OFW’s body was eventually brought back to the Philippines on 16 January, after being initially misidentified by a Kuwaiti cargo company.
