Mariano Clidoro, former sportswriter of Tempo/Bulletin, Pilipino Mirror and Bulgar, will be laid to rest on Wednesday at the Silangan Memorial Garden in Bacoor, Cavite.
Interment is at 2 p.m.
He passed away last 19 January at age 79.
He is survived by children Joey, Danny and Rose, and grandchildren Jhoros and Angelica.
His remains lie in state at the family residence at Block 5 Lot 26, Banaba Street, Camella Sorrento Habay 1, Bacoor, Cavite.
Known by his nickname “Clyde” to friends in the sports community, he hails from Tiwi, Albay and set out for Manila on his own shortly after completing his elementary years.
He studied high school at Jose Rizal College (now Jose Rizal University) at night while working as a newsboy by peddling and delivering newspapers at day. He later earned his bachelor degree in Journalism at Lyceum of the Philippines.
Using Clyde Mariano for his byline, he began his sports writing career at the Philippine News Agency under the late Joe Favia.
He got his biggest break when he was tapped as a pioneer correspondent and later, as regular sportswriter for Tempo, the tabloid daily of the Manila Bulletin, starting in 1982.
Shortly after his retirement, he went on and served as a regular contributor in Bulgar and Pilipino Mirror in which he covered various beats like the Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Olympic Committee and Philippine Basketball Association.
