It’s no longer business as usual for the telco Globe company and its suppliers. They are going beyond B2B norms by aligning their sustainability goals as the telecommunications giant empowers its vendors with the technology to conform with global environmental, social and governance (ESG) standards.
On top of capacity-building initiatives via its Globe’s Sustainability Academy, suppliers were introduced to Givvable, an Australian-based artificial intelligence-powered data platform for screening and validating their ESG practices.
Globe and Givvable recently co-organized a webinar for orientation on the tool and it was attended by almost 170 representatives from over 50 vendors, 81 percent of whom were local suppliers.
Apple Evangelista, Globe’s Sustainability and Social Responsibility head, highlighted strategies for carbon reduction in the telco sector during the webinar titled “Beyond Business as Usual: Building a Sustainable Future.”
Meanwhile, Naomi Vowels, co-founder and director of Givvable, explored the use of automated tools for supplier sustainability and ESG diligence.
“Givvable brings visibility to the ESG performance of your suppliers, enabling you to make informed choices that align with your sustainability values and business goals. By leveraging our platform, companies can foster a sustainable supply chain, mitigate risks and contribute to a better future for all,” Vowels said.
The platform has modules that cover topics such as carbon footprint reduction, circular economy and ethical sourcing.
The webinar also showcased valuable insights from distinguished experts who discussed integrating sustainability into the supply chain and provided an introduction to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and their calculation.
The GHG accounting module resonated strongly with participants, prompting some to commit to implementing sustainability guidelines, reviewing their products and services, and sharing knowledge within their organizations.
“Sustainability requires deliberate efforts, supported by awareness, dedication and collaboration. Our Academy enables suppliers to take meaningful steps toward achieving shared sustainability goals,” Jerry Cabiles, head of Globe’s procurement and logistics, said.
Launched in December 2023, the online platform offers training sessions that cover foundational knowledge on sustainability, circularity, diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, anti-corruption and the importance of sustainability reporting. These enables Globe suppliers to integrate related metrics into their business strategies.
Moving forward, Globe plans to scale its Sustainability Academy to reach more suppliers, provide advanced training modules and deepen supplier engagement.
By fostering a culture of sustainability, Globe aims to create a resilient, responsible supply chain that contributes to a sustainable future.
