Malacañang on Friday announced the suspension of government work and classes in all levels in the cities of Manila and Pasay on 13 January “to give way to the Iglesia ni Cristo rally at the Quirino Grandstand.”
“In view of the numerous participants expected to travel to and within the cities of Manila and Pasay, government work and classes shall be suspended,” Memorandum Circular No. 16, signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, read.
However, agencies whose functions involve the delivery of basic and health services, disaster preparedness and response, and those performing vital services will remain operational on that date.
Meanwhile, the suspension of work in private companies and offices is left to their discretion.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority earlier announced the closure of roads near the Quirino Grandstand for the INC rally.
The INC leadership previously announced plans for the rally in support of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s call against the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte.
Marcos had said the move to impeach the Vice President would “tie down” the House of Representatives and the Senate which should be focused on other things.
Duterte is facing three impeachment complaints in the House of Representatives.
