BANTAYAN, Cebu — Three fishermen were arrested by the Northern Cebu Maritime Law Enforcement Team of the Regional Maritime Unit in Central Visayas (RMU-7) for illegal fishing in the waters off Lipayran, Bantayan, Cebu.
The fishermen were intercepted with approximately 60 kilos of blasted fish, locally known as "Buraw," valued at an estimated P12,500. The catch was obtained using illegal blasting techniques.
The three individuals face charges under Section 126 of Republic Act 10654, the amended Philippine Fisheries Code of 1998, which prohibits the possession, sale, and disposal of illegally caught fish.
PCol. Mario Cristino A. Lucero, newly appointed RMU-7 Regional Commander, vowed to intensify efforts against illegal fishing activities in the region.
