The Department of Health (DOH) on Friday said posts circulating on social media about an alleged “international health concern” are still unverified.
This follows certain social media posts claiming that a country in Asia declared an “international health concern” amid the outbreak of new illnesses.
In a statement, DOH Assistant Secretary Domingo said reliable sources currently “do not support circulating posts on social media,” and there is no confirmation from either the cited country or the World Health Organization (WHO).
“The Philippines, through the Department of Health (DOH), is an active participant in the network of WHO Member States that follow the International Health Regulations (IHR),” Domingo noted.
“This established system provides reliable updates on international health concerns,” he added.
Domingo also assured that the Philippine disease surveillance systems “are in place and working.”
“The DOH is actively verifying all information and will keep the Filipino public updated,” Domingo said.
He also urged the public to refrain from sharing questionable websites or online sources.
“Let us not spread misinformation and confusion.”
