Jason Momoa, best known for his role as Aquaman, is officially rejoining the revamped DC Universe to portray a new character, Lobo, the iconic galactic bounty hunter. His portrayal of a completely different character comes as James Gunn and Peter Safran reshape the DC Universe.
Momoa shared the news via an Instagram post with the caption, "They called," referencing a 2023 Fandango interview in which he expressed his passion for the character.
“Lobo was always my favorite. If they ever call me and ask me to play him, it’s a f* yeah,” Momoa had said in the interview, showcasing his enthusiasm for the role.
Momoa’s Lobo will debut in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, starring House of the Dragon breakout Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El. Directed by Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya), the film also features Matthias Schoenaerts (The Old Guard) as the villain Krem of the Yellow Hill and Eve Ridley (3 Body Problem) as galactic warrior Ruthye Marye Knoll.
The movie, adapting Tom King’s celebrated comic series, follows the journey of Supergirl as she aids Ruthye, an alien girl seeking justice against those who destroyed her world and killed her father.
The show's production will begin early next year, with a theatrical release slated for 26 June 2026.
