The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Sunday announced that it has already deployed at least 37,000 police officers nationwide ahead of the celebration of the New Year to ensure peace and order.
In a statement, PNP chief Police General Rommel Marbil stressed the importance of law enforcement’s role in ensuring public safety during the holiday season, particularly in addressing risks associated with fireworks, fire hazards and revelry-related accidents.
“Our responsibility goes beyond just enforcing peace and order,” Marbil said.
“It extends to ensuring the safety of our fellow citizens. Police personnel should be ready to assist in any emergency, including fire incidents, accidents, and providing first aid when necessary,” he added.
The PNP chief also ordered all mobile units to be equipped with fire safety devices and first aid kits to enable immediate assistance during emergencies and urged the public to promptly report any suspicious activities to authorities.
Meantime, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) acting director Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin disclosed that over 10,000 police officers were deployed to main areas such as transportation terminals, shopping malls, churches and other crowded locations.
Aberin reiterated the NCRPO’s “no-gun-muzzling” policy, expressing confidence in the professionalism and responsibility of police officers.
“Gun muzzling is unnecessary,” Aberin said. “Our officers are professionals who understand the consequences of their actions.”
He warned that indiscriminate firing would result in immediate arrest and subsequent administrative and criminal charges.
