The registration of social media accounts for the National and Local Elections (NLE) in May 2025 concluded on Friday, with over 13,700 forms submitted.
Comelec Spokesperson Rex Laudiangco, in a message to reporters, confirmed that a total of 13,723 aspirants registered their social media accounts via Google Forms. Among these, 70 were senatorial aspirants.
Although the Commission on Elections (Comelec) earlier announced that only 66 senatorial candidates had made it to the final list, Laudiangco clarified that four nuisance candidates also registered their social media accounts ad cautelam or “for safety’s sake.”
Additionally, 237 partylist groups, organizations, and coalitions registered their social media accounts, along with 13,416 local aspirants.
Laudiangco noted that the figures are still subject to final evaluation and verification, both online and through hard copies.
Election aspirants or political parties that fail to register their social media accounts and pages may be required to explain why a complaint for violation should not be filed against them.
“A request for the removal, takedown, or blocking of the said content, social media or digital platforms, or accounts shall also be made by the Comelec through the Task Force [Katotohanan, Katapatan, Katarungan] sa Halalan to the technology platforms and providers, and/or the concerned law enforcement agency,” stated the Comelec resolution.
