Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla has designated Deputy Chief for Administration Chief Supt. Jesus Fernandez as officer-in-charge (OIC) of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) following the compulsory retirement of Fire Director Louie Puracan.
In Remulla’s DILG Order 2024 1329 dated 29 November obtained by DAILY TRIBUNE, it stated that Fernandez is authorized to perform all administrative and operational duties and responsibilities of the bureau.
However, Remulla also ordered, that Fernandez has no “power to appoint” and “designate and reassign” BFP personnel.
The order shall be in effect until such time President Marcos Jr. appoints a new Fire Chief.
Puracan hanged his service uniform last 27 November where Fernandez being the number 2 in command, took the helm under a “caretaker” status.
Two days later, the DILG came out with an OIC order for Fernandez to oversee the BFP functions except the power to appoint and designate and reassign BFP personnel.
Fernandez is a member of the Philippine National Police Academy Batch 1994.
