QC fetes groups via ‘Green Awards’

At least 33 individuals and organizations were recognized at the 2024 Quezon City Green Awards for their significant contributions to environmental sustainability and disaster resilience.

From urban farming initiatives to community resilience programs, this year’s awardees showcased the power of a multi-sectoral approach in addressing climate change.

“The participation of barangays, businesses, schools, hospitals, youth groups and Sangguniang Kabataan in the QC Green Awards proves that every individual and institution has the power to create meaningful change,” Mayor Joy Belmonte said.

“Through programs focused on environmental protection and disaster preparedness, you are demonstrating that every action has a significant impact on your community, our city, and our planet,” she added.

Each awardee received cash grants to further their green and resilient initiatives.

The Green Award recognizes institutions that have made significant contributions to addressing climate change and advancing sustainable practices. This year’s Green awardees include Barangay San Antonio, Commonwealth, Batasan Hills, Immaculate Conception, Philam, and Luntiang Pamumuhay Inc.

For the business category, feted were Robinsons Novaliches, Maynilad Water Services, Inc., Eastwood City, while the school category recognized St. Theresa’s College, New Era High School and Commonwealth High School.

The Resilience Category honors initiatives that demonstrate resiliency, preparedness and response to disasters and the awardees include Jose P. Laurel Sr. High School and Camp Crame High School for the school category; Batasan Hills, Culiat, Commonwealth, Novaliches Proper for the barangay category and the Cloverleaf Balintawak Estate Association, Inc., Sun Properties Development Corporation, SM Prime Holdings and AyalaLand Offices for the business category.

Each awardee received cash grants to further their green and resilient initiatives. The Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability Department led the verification.
