DAVAO CITY — The Presidential Assistant for Eastern Mindanao, or OPAMINE, has vowed to back rehabilitation efforts of Caraga town in Davao Oriental, which is still reeling from the destruction brought about by typhoon “Kabayan” last month.
Kabayan made landfall along the coast of Davao Oriental on 18 December 2023, and brought tropical cyclone wind signal number 1 to Caraga town.
In a meeting with Caraga Mayor Ronnie Osnan on Friday, Secretary Leo Tesoro Magno inquired about the rehabilitation needed in the area.
The majority of the residents of the said town were affected by flooding and landslides.
Osnan laid down the extent of the damage caused by typhoon “Kabayan” and the number of residents affected by the calamity. Caraga has a little over 39,000 residents.
“Several infrastructures were also destroyed,” he added.
Magno assured Osnan that he would help the Municipality of Caraga in its recovery from the aftermath of “Kabayan.”
