Reflecting on the new year

"I did it!"

These words can mean a job well done, time well spent, the enthusiasm to walk a new path, or rather the readiness to undergo metamorphosis for a new beginning.

As we begin 2024, a new chapter of our lives, it is good to reminisce how we have made the previous year productive and how we can make this year even better.

Let us look at what young people have to say about the things they have gone through in 2023 and their hopes for the new year.

Amazing ideas

Some kids spent their previous year creating amazing ideas.

Kalea B. Gragasin, a Grade 12 student from Mayfield Montessori Academy in Quezon City, spent 2023 completing her Grade 11 research paper and helping animal charities. She hopes to graduate high school and pass the university's admission tests that she applied for.

Looking back with pride

Jules Anthony Manzano, an electrical engineering undergraduate student from the University of the Philippines Los Baños, filled 2023 with strings of accomplishments that he can look back with pride. He passed all his courses without dropping one, an achievement he can consider the best of his 2023. He looks forward to graduating college.

Orderliness

Some people find beginning with the small stuff, such as the simple organization of a room setup, a good way to spend the previous year.

As a Grade 7 student of Mayfield Montessori Academy in Quezon City, orderliness allows my mind to make room for more fulfilling endeavors such as writing stories and learning how to write in cursive.

It is time to draw on the blank canvas of the new year. Through the pleasures and trials of life, each year is wrought with joys and challenges, but at the end of the day we can all look back and say, "I did it."
