To ensure sufficient power supply during dry months and to cater to an imminent demand influx, the Manila Electric Co., or Meralco, has started the Competitive Selection Process, or CSP, for 660 megawatts, or MW, of interim supply.

Meralco said on Thursday that the launch of the CSP was cleared by the Department of Energy, or DoE, after the issuance of a Certificate of Conformity on the Terms of Reference, or ToR, for the Interim Power Supply Agreements, or IPSAs.

The IPSAs cover Meralco's 260-MW peaking requirement and 400-MW base load requirement this year.

The 260-MW and 400-MW IPSAs will be effective until July 2024 and February 2025, respectively.

Expressions of interest

The pre-bid conferences for the 260-MW peaking requirement and 400 MW baseload requirement are both scheduled on January 22, while the Bid Submission Deadlines are set on 26 and 27 February, respectively.

The conduct of the CSPs aligns with Meralco's DOE-approved Power Supply Procurement Plan, which addresses the need for additional available capacities to cater to the customers' demands through IPSAs.

The implementation of these IPSAs will commence once they have been approved by the Energy Regulatory Commission.

CSP is a process that involves a transparent and competitive bidding system, where a power supplier is chosen to supply the electric power requirements of a distribution utility like Meralco.

The objective of the CSP policy is to prioritize the needs of the consumers, as per the Distribution Development Plan and Power Supply Procurement Plans of the DUs.
