BAGUIO CITY — A multiple-vehicle collision claims one individual and injures 13 others at Sitio Salpang, Barangay Taloy Sur, Marcos Highway in Tuba, Benguet on the evening of 18 December 2023.

The 14 victims included three minors, 10 elderly persons, and one adult. Three vehicles were involved in the road mishap.

According to the Tuba Municipal Police, the incident happened at around 10:15 p.m. on the said date.

Initial police investigation disclosed that three vehicles were traversing the highway towards the province of La Union before the incident. Upon reaching the vicinity of Sitio Salpang, the white van lost its brake and started speeding downwards. The driver of the vehicle lost control of the van.

The van then sideswiped the SUV it was following. The impact caused the said SUV to go uncontrollably and then bump into the rear of a pick-up truck. The van twisted and rested on its side in the northbound lane.

 The 13 passengers of the van sustained injuries. They were rushed by responders to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) for treatment. One of the 14 victims was reported dead on the spot.
