Bringing tools with them, residents of Barangays Moonwalk and Don Bosco in Parañaque City joined forces to help remove the debris and bricks blocking the Baloc-Baloc Creek on Sunday, 17 December.
The obstruction resulted in waist-deep flooding during the rainy season in some streets of Camella Classic Subdivision.
Affected residents, through the Camella Classic Homeowners Association Inc., have already filed complaints before the local government authorities petitioning for the removal of the "illegal" structure.
This refers to the permanent structure built by a certain Mr. Lao, owner of Wing-An Garden Resort, who extended his property by placing a cemented structure on the creek between Camella and Multinational Village.
"The said blockage done with a certain Lao was causing a stagnant water within the vicinity that made the community vulnerable to diseases like dengue and other water-born diseases, and also flooding in the areas," Sabino Garcia III, peace and order and public safety administrator of Barangay Moonwalk, said in a clean-up drive memo dated 13 December 2023, requesting for safety and security assistance and volunteer work from concerned and affected parties.
