President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Sunday told the Philippine National Police (PNP) to launch a thorough and comprehensive investigation to apprehend and bring to justice the death of radio anchor Juan Jumalon or "Johnny Walker" in Misamis Occidental.
In a brief statement, Marcos said he strongly condemned the killing of Jumalon while on air for his radio program on 94.7 Calamba Gold FM on Sunday morning.
The President has emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law and ensuring that the perpetrators face the full extent of legal consequences for their actions.
"This senseless attack on our journalists has no place in a democratic nation," Marcos said.

He expressed his deep condolences to the family and loved ones of Johnny Walker, assuring them that the government will leave no stone unturned in the pursuit of justice.
In a separate statement, Police Regional Office 10 said on Sunday that it will set up a special investigation task group to investigate Jumalon's fatal shooting.
"We are now actively conducting a thorough investigation to identify the perpetrators of this crime and bring them to justice. A special investigation task group will be created to spearhead and coordinate the investigative efforts to facilitate the speedy resolution of the case," PRO10 acting regional director Police Brigadier General Ricardo Layug Jr. said.
"Let us stand united against violence and work towards a society where freedom of expression and of the press is respected and protected," he added.
Jumalon was at his home radio station in Barangay Don Bernardo A. Neri early Sunday morning when he was shot from close range by an unknown person who hit him in the lower lip and back of the head.
Police corporal Paul Guigayoma of the Calamba municipal police station in Misamis Occidental said that the two shooters showed up on foot at the radio station around 5:35 a.m., just as the victim was starting to talk on his show.
Guigayoma said that one of the shooters broke into the studio, which was in a small room in front of Jumalon's house, while the other stayed outside as a lookout.
"They knew their way around because they open the iron gates and barged inside the radio station," Guigayoma said.
His family rushed him to the Calamba District Hospital, where Jumalon was pronounced dead on arrival.
