The Justice Sector Coordinating Council will preside over the official opening on 10 November of Puerto Princesa City as the 12th Justice Zone.

Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, and Interior and Local Government Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. are attending the event.

Puerto Princesa follows Quezon City, Cebu City, Davao City, Angeles City, Bacolod City, Naga City, Calamba City, Balanga City, Baguio City, Zamboanga City and Tagaytay City as a zone putting a premium on the delivery of justice.

The goal of the Justice Zone project is to administer the criminal justice system in a fair and timely manner. It was created to improve communication and collaboration between the Supreme Court, the Department of Justice and the Department of the Interior and Local Government.

The Green Justice Zone would improve the ability and cooperation of the justice sectors to devise plans and approaches for effectively addressing issues related to the processing and decision-making of environmental cases, among other things.

The DoJ oversees the Bureau of Corrections, which is trying to address the congestion in penal and reformation facilities in the country, through the release of qualified PDLs.

Gesmundo recently visited BuCor's biggest jail facility in terms of PDL population — the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City, where he pledged to look into improving the implementation of the Good Conduct Time Allowance.
