Samahang Weightlifting ng Pilipinas President Monico O. Puentevella has just been appointed as Media Committee Co-Chairman of the Asian Weightlifting Federation in the recent Executive Board Meeting last week in Jinju, South Korea.
Puentevella, who is currently AWF vice president, is named alongside Eschaq Ebrahim (Bahrain), Aljohar Abdulziza (Saudi Arabia), Laing Li (Taiwan), and Pour Riza (Iran).
The Filipino official was also chosen as Vice-Chair for the Marketing Committee.
For the first time ever, Puentevella is bidding to host the Asian Juniors and Youth Championship here for next year.
All five Filipino lifters recently won seven gold medals in the World Junior and Youth Championships held in Albania.
With only three days of rest from the Olympic Qualifying Asian Championships in Korea, SWP won two record-breaking golds and four silvers in the recently concluded Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia.
Puentevella said he's thankful to the coaches, SWP Board, parents, SM Group, MVPSF, and the Philippine Sports Commission for their support all these years.
