"Para sa 'tin 'to," Dolly de Leon said in a statement, symbolically sharing with all Filipinos her winning Best Supporting Performance given by the Los Angeles Critics Association for her breakout performance in Swedish filmmaker Ruben Östlund's Triangle of Sadness.
The film — which bagged the Palme d'Or, the highest prize at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival — created a worldwide buzz loud enough for De Leon to land at No. 10 on Variety's predicted nominees list for Best Supporting Actress at the 95th Academy Awards on 28 March 2023.
Triangle of Sadness, a black comedy on the lifestyles of the rich, cast De Leon as a toilet manager of a luxury yacht who assumes command of survivors when the yacht sinks from a pirates' attack.
In the statement sent to media following news of her victory at LAFCA, De Leon said: "It's an honor and a privilege to be recognized by critics who think outside the box and recognize the artistry of filmmaking. I'm proud to represent every individual who is struggling in his or her chosen industry — much like Abigail. Every single soul who's watched the film would know what I'm talking about. If you haven't, go and find out. It's still in cinemas dito sa 'tin. Para sa 'tin 'to."
De Leon tied with Vietnamese-American actor Ke Huy Quan (in the comedy-drama film Everything Everywhere All at Once), LAFCA announced on 12 December on Twitter.
The US-based International Press Academy has nominated for De Leon for Best Supporting Actress at the 2022 Satellite Awards to be announced on 11 February 2023 in Los Angeles.
Triangle of Sadness — whose cast includes Harris Dickinson, Zlatko Buri , Henrik Dorsin, Vicki Berlin, and Woody Harrelson — is still showing at Ayala Malls the 30th, Ayala Vertis, Bonifacio High, Fisher Mall QC, Gateway, Glorietta, Greenbelt, TriNoma, Power Plant Cinema Makati and Santolan, and Cinema '76.
