The Christmas season has arrived. We hear Yuletide songs played everywhere. We are besieged with requests from many caroling groups. We are receiving Christmas gifts from friends here and abroad. And phone calls greet us the best in this season of love and goodwill.
While we enjoy all these happy pleasures, we must keep in mind that Christmas is the month of Christ's birth when He came down to save humanity. Let us forget ourselves in this season of love and giving. Let us reach out to everyone and share the joy of Christmas with them.
Let us be Christlike in words, thoughts and actions. Let us create a kinder, loving and peaceful world for all. It only takes one person to light the candle in a darkened path for the light to spread everywhere.
I recall a memorable event that happened about a decade ago. My grandson Aidan was sharing our family's happy moments with his classmates during recess when one classmate asked him, "Is Bing Carrion your grandmother?"
Aidan was surprised with the question and he replied, "Yes." Then he asked his classmate, "Why do you know my grandmother?"
His classmate replied, "Because my father who is a Department of Education superintendent of Schools shared a story with me that it was Bing Carrion, his good friend from Boac, Marinduque, who mentored him to pass his most important interview that earned him his promotion as superintendent of Schools in Makati City."
My grandson Aidan was so happy with his classmate's sharing that he rang me right away. He said, "Mama, I am so proud of you. You always help people and you don't even tell us about these good deeds. You have such a good heart that I want to be like you."
That story from my grandson truly touched my heart. It made me realize that it is the little acts we do for others that truly create a kinder and happier world.
Being grateful and being kind to everyone is a choice. Let us be that kind of person. Let us change the world one day at a time by touching others with a smile, a kind word, a loving hug or a little gift. Let us seize every opportunity to be a person for others because if we don't, we will lose that chance forever.
It is by being kind and grateful that we change others and ourselves forever.
