PGJC Navy pulled off a huge upset after shocking erstwhile unbeaten defending champion Cignal, 20-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-23, Tuesday night in the Spikers' Turf Open Conference at the Paco Arena.
The Sealions spoiled the HD Spikers' attempt to join unbeaten National University-Sta. Elena in the semifinals as Navy improved to a 3-1 win-loss record tied with its victim.
League-leading scorer Joshua Umandal wreaked havoc on offense as he scattered 18 points with all but one of his points coming off kills for Navy, which snapped Cignal's 16-game winning streak since 2019.
Christian Marcelino added 14 markers while Peter Quiel and skipper Greg Dolor posted 11 and 10 points, respectively, for the Sealions.
Navy played solid defense at the net, scoring eight kill blocks with Ronniel Rosales delivering three blocks.
The HD Spikers dropped to second to third spot.
Marck Espejo finished with 17 points and 14 excellent receptions while JP Bugaoan and Louie Ramirez got 11 and 10 markers for Cignal.
