  • GAC Philippines has entered a sports marketing partnership with Cignal TV and TV5 that will place the automotive brand within broadcasts of major basketball and volleyball competitions in the country.

The agreement covers the PBA Governors’ Cup, the Premier Volleyball League On Tour and Invitational Conference, and the UAAP Season 89 men’s basketball tournament. Cignal and TV5 serve as official broadcast homes for the leagues.

Viewers will see GAC segments and custom player features during game coverage. The brand will also appear in highlight packages built around key plays. These activities will give the carmaker access to audiences that follow local basketball and volleyball.

The campaign uses the line “Go Above Competition,” which takes its initials from the GAC name. The company plans to use the partnership to introduce more Filipino sports fans to its vehicle range as it builds its local presence.

“Bringing our global sports marketing tradition to the Philippines is an exciting step as we deepen our roots in the country,” GAC International senior vice president Steven Wang said.

Wang said the brand sees a connection between the discipline required in sports and the work involved in vehicle development. He added that the partnership with Cignal and TV5 would allow GAC to reach Filipino fans through the games they regularly watch.

GAC will also use the campaign to feature vehicles suited to different customer needs. Its current lineup includes the fully electric AION V and AION UT, as well as multipurpose vehicles made for passengers and cargo.

The sports tie-up in the Philippines follows similar GAC programs in other markets. The company has sponsored Deportivo Toluca FC in Mexico and Sydney FC in Australia.

It has also supported the Global Super League cricket tournament in the Caribbean and the Rosa Challenge Tour golf event in Poland.

Other activities include GAC’s support for vehicle fleets used in China’s 15th National Games and its sponsorship of the Bolivia Half Marathon. These partnerships have allowed the automaker to appear across several sports and markets instead of relying on a single global competition.

The local agreement comes as GAC International takes a more direct role in its Philippine operations. GAC International Philippines is a wholly owned unit of the Chinese automaker’s overseas arm and handles the GAC Motor, AION and HYPTEC brands in the country under its One GAC strategy.

Its Philippine range covers gasoline-powered models and new-energy vehicles. The company has also established a local parts warehouse to improve component availability and shorten service waiting times for owners.

Sports sponsorships have long offered car brands a broad audience, especially in the Philippines, where basketball and volleyball attract viewers across age groups. The Cignal and TV5 partnership gives GAC regular exposure during several league calendars rather than a one-off event.

GAC said the campaign will run throughout broadcasts of the covered competitions. The company did not provide a detailed schedule for the segments and player features.

The arrangement marks another step in GAC’s effort to become more familiar to Filipino buyers. It gives the brand a regular place in sports broadcasts outside its usual dealership and motor show activities.
