'Abot Kamay na Pangarap' is a family medical drama about an illiterate mother and her genius daughter.
Jillian Ward said she and Richard Yap went to watch doctors perform brain surgery — for them to get a feel of their respective roles in the new GMA series Abot Kamay na Pangarap.
"Sa totoo lang po, kinakabahan ako, tulad ng sabi ni direk LA (Madrilejos), kapag mga medical shows lagi pong napupuna," said Ward, who plays a medical student in the afternoon show.
Abot Kamay ng Pangarap is about Lyneth (Carmina Villaroel), an illiterate mother whose genius daughter, Analyn (Ward), will become the country's youngest neurosurgeon.
Ward, 17, admitted the "super challenging" demands of her character, saying she had to memorize so many medical terms until she'd fall asleep. These would still be fresh in her mind upon waking up.
For additional material and to enhance her character, she also watched an American medical series, The Good Doctor.
A real neurosurgeon was also on the set to comment and dispense advise for an accurate portrayal of her character.
Madrilejos, meanwhile, said he hopes the series can inspire the youth to dream big: "Masusubukan nating dalhin ito sa audience sa hapon, and I really want it to work."
Likewise in the cast are Dominic Ochoa, Andre Paras, Wilma Doesn't and Dexter Doria.
Abot Kamay na Pangarap premiered on 5 September on GMA Afternoon prime.
