Malacañang is set to appoint a soon-to-retire military general to the Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC).

President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday night said that he will appoint yet another military officer to a government post simply because he can get the job done like the others before him.

At the same time, the President said he is relaxed, knowing military officers are unlikely to be involved in corruption.

“Well, because I said from experience, time and again, I have observed that if it is… Kita mo lahat ng (You see, all my) Cabinet members ko ngayon puro (are all from the) military. There’s one coming up. Bakante ‘yung isang opisina ng (There’s a vacancy at the) PNOC. I’m going to appoint another general there, retiring,” the President revealed after presiding over the 2019 OFW Family of the Year Award (MOFYA) program at the Palace’s Heroes Hall.

“Mas ano ako, kampante ako. Kasi itong mga military hindi masyado ano sa corruption. ‘Pag sinabi mo, ‘Magtrabaho ka at gawin mo ‘yan, anong klaseng ano, ayusin mo ang Boracay,’ you give the money, may sobra pa (I’m more relaxed. Because these , the military, are not that involved in corruption. If you say, ‘You work and do your job, you fix Boracay,’ you give the money, there’s even excess funds),” he added.

The President did not mention who the incoming PNOC official is but one prominent name who is nearing retirement is Army chief Lt. Gen. Macairog Alberto, who will reach the mandatory retirement age of 56 years on 6 December 2019.

Alberto was a member of Philippine Military Academy “Sinagtala” Class of 1986.

A Presidential Decree created the PNOC on 9 November 1973 to provide and maintain an adequate and stable supply of oil.
