The Philippine National Police (PNP) will be staging several more simulation exercises to ensure all bases are covered when the country hosts the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games starting 30 November.

According to officer-in-charge PLt. Gen. Archie Gamboa, this is to make sure that the 27,000 cops to be deployed in different venues, hotels, and other places of convergence would be in sync for the staging of the prestigious biennial meet.

“For the SEA Games, we have different simulation exercises. If I’m still looking at where I would be able to (personally) join, but there are different launching and sendoffs of troops in four different regions: NCR (National Capital Region), Region 3, Region 4A, and Region 1,” Gamboa told reporters in a chance interview.

Gamboa added that some delegates from 10 other countries have already arrived in preparation for the prestigious tourney that starts on 30 November at the New Clark City in Tarlac.

“As a matter of fact, some of the athletes are already here in the Philippines and we are prepared for their security and (oversee the) peace and order situation,” he said.

The PNP Highway Patrol Group, meanwhile, has been tasked to oversee the traffic flow to and from the different venues.

Gamboa said putting the police force on a high alert status “would depend on the regional directors.”

The PNP OIC has earlier said that although there have been no reports of threats of any kind, the police force “will remain ready in case of any eventuality.”
