ORMOC CITY — Former movie actor and now Ormoc City Mayor Richard Gomez says he will focus in his second term as local chief executive in solving the water problem of the city.
Gomez said the fast progress in the city which brought an influx of people from other places has outpaced the available water resources.
“Ormoc’s biggest problem at the moment is water,” says Gomez in his state of the city address this week. “So many barangays in Ormoc are now suffering from lack of water due to the lack of a steady source and wastefulness.”
Last month, the Ormoc City government signed a memorandum of agreement with the Public-Private Center for a conduct of a feasibility study for the establishment of Lake Danao Water System.

This project will provide for a comprehensive water infrastructure modernization program and will give us the capacity to process and distribute sanitized, potable water for general household and commercial use,” Gomez said.
“We cannot continue to suffer from water shortage when a huge resource located in our city is being benefitted from by Tacloban City and seven other municipalities,” he added.
Gomez, in his address in front of city officials and guests, admitted that much has yet to be done to implement the project “as a plan of this scale will cost billions of pesos.”
He urged the city council “to pass at the soonest time our Public Private Partnership Code so that we can find the necessary resources to implement the Lake Danao Water Supply.”
In 2017, the Regional Development Council in Eastern Visayas endorsed to Malacañang for funding the P2-billion comprehensive masterplan of Ormoc waterworks system that will develop Lake Danao as the water source to sustainably supply water in the entire city.
