San Miguel Beer’s veteran guard Chris Ross is confident that newly-acquired Mo Tautuaa will be a crucial piece in their search for a second grand slam in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).
The 10-year pro said the former No. 1 pick has the tools that will make the Beermen more competitive in the ongoing Governors’ Cup.
“His skill set fits us. He can shoot it. He can shoot it consistently from the three-point line and he can also post and he’s been guarding other team’s import,” Ross said.
Ross believes that Tautuaa won’t have a hard time adjusting to the system they have in San Miguel because of his experience with TNT KaTropa and NorthPort.
“Mo he’s been around with different coaches already. He has been with a few teams. And he’s a veteran,” Ross said.
“He has learned different systems and coming to us that should help, it won’t be new him to learn a new system.”
The Batang Pier shipped Tautuaa to the Beermen in exchange for fellow former top pick Christian Standhardinger.
The Filipino-Tongan joins a franchise that has won the first two conferences and is gunning for a triple crown.
And Ross said Tautuaa’s good character is also a plus for them.
“Off court, Mo is a funny guy. Easy going. He’ll fit right well with the team and we’re looking forward to have him,” Ross said. “Him and Christian are different players but they bring different things on the table.”
Tautuaa will make his San Miguel debut on Sunday against the Columbian at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
