Dennis Uy-led Chelsea Logistics and Infrastructure Holdings Corp. has sealed an agreement with a Japanese firm to expand its roll-on, roll-off (RoRo) passenger ferry service.
Chelsea told the Philippine Stock Exchange on Tuesday that it inked a 10-year bareboat charter agreement with Southern Pacific Holding Corp., a subsidiary of Kumiai Senpaku Co., Ltd. of Tokyo, Japan, involving a 123-meter RoRo ferry which can accommodate a total of 1,085 passengers, 24 buses, and 11 trucks.
“Every sealed partnership is a reason for us to celebrate and look forward to a promising future not only for the business per se, but also for the Filipinos who need more reliable, more efficient, and safer shipping and logistics,” Chelsea President and Chief Executive Officer Chryss Alfonsus Damuy said.

The partnership marks as the third agreement between the two companies, the first being a 98-meter passenger ferry with Hull S-1191 for delivery in 2020.
The S-1191 vessel will be the subject of a 20-year bareboat charter agreement between Kumiai’s subsidiary, Southern Pacific Holding Corporation as owner, and Starlite Ferries Inc. as charterer. It comes with an irrevocable obligation for Starlite Ferries to purchase the vessel at the end of the 20-year charter period.
Kumiai Senpaku Co. Ltd. previously financed the acquisition by Trans-Asia Shipping Lines Inc., also a wholly-owned subsidiary of Chelsea, of a 67-meter passenger ferry with Hull No. S-1185 subsequently named “Trans-Asia 19” which arrived in the Philippines in November 2018.
Chelsea is the logistics and infrastructure holding firm of tycoon Dennis Uy, which also obtained the original proponent status for its proposed P16-billion modernization of the Davao Sasa port.
