Megaworld said 40 percent of the development will be dedicated to green and open spaces.

Megaworld Corp. is allotting P1.5 billion for the construction of a mall slated for completion in 2021 within its 28.8-hectare The Mactan Newtown Development township in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.

The Tan-led developer said the two-level mall, dubbed the Mactan Newtown Beach Walk, will have a gross floor area of 30,000 square meters and will feature a 1.4-hectare man-made lagoon at the center to connect both sides of the mall.

As the lagoon will have a depth of 1.5 meters, Megaworld said it may also be a venue for water sports activities such as jet ski, wakeboarding, stand-up paddling and boating.

Additionally, the mall will be equipped with a chapel, cinemas, a food hall, traveler’s lounge and a view deck, while the mall complex also offer a three-storey boutique hotel with 48 guestrooms as well as retail shops.

In line with its “commitment to sustainability,” the large-scale property developer said 40 percent of the development “will be dedicated to green and open spaces.” It will also be using solar roof panels for the development.

“We even have some untouched areas for bike trails, airsoft shooting and tree-top activities. This part of the Mactan Newtown is abundantly surrounded with trees, and we want

to keep them,” Megaworld chief strategy officer Kevin Tan said.

The Mactan Newtown Development is the company’s first township development outside of Metro Manila.
