P30-B Cebu span opens 2021

The management of Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway Corporation (CCLEX) yesterday assured the public the construction of the third bridge linking Cebu City and Cordova town is “on track” and will be operational by 2021.

Allan Alfon, CCLEX president and general manager expressed optimism the target completion will be realized after they secured P19-B funding from six local banks.

The 8.5- kilometer toll bridge has a total project cost of P30 billion.

It will link Cebu City’s south road properties and the town of Cordova in Mactan island.

He cited the January 2019 report on the project’s engineering procurement that includes the design and procurement and construction is already at 27 percent.

The actual construction of the project that started July 2018, however, is still at eight percent.

“It’s basically the driving of the piles for the foundation of the bridge,” Alfon said.

The contractor, Cebu Link Joint Venture, is working on Tower 1 and had already finished the 21 piles of Tower 2 which form part of the span’s main foundation.

Alfon explained once the piles were up, the work will be easier and they expect to open the bridge by 2021.

CCLEX will have two lanes in each direction and will feature the main navigation span bridge along with viaduct approach bridges, causeway, roadway and toll facilities.
